Homemade Corn Dogs

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup finely ground corn meal
  • ½ t salt
  • ½ t pepper
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 4 t baking powder
  • ½ t garlic powder
  • ½ t paprika
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Vegetable oil
  • 1 package hot dogs
  • Wooden skewers

 

Directions

  • Insert skewers 3/4 way into hot dogs.
  • Preheat oil in deep pan to medium-high heat.
  • Whisk together the egg and buttermilk.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together dry ingredients.
  • Pour dry ingredients into wet ingredients. Mix well.
  • Using a spoon, dip and cover each hot dog in the batter. Scrape off excess batter and immediately place in preheated oil. Cook for 1-2 minutes on each side or until the batter is deep golden in color.
  • Serve immediately with your favorite fixings.
